Moray Cafe

Moray Cafe, New Farm A friend once told me before that 'Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!' and knowing that I enjoy breakfast, BG bought me a voucher breakfast in Moray Cafe, New Farm for my birthday. We visited this place twice and I managed to embarrass myself twice. Read on to know more ... Far away from Brunswick St where most cafes ( Ortiga ,  Cirque , Ponycat) are, Moray Cafe is situated around the corner of Moray St and Merthyr St, free from the hustle and bustle you get in Brunswick St. And not too far away from Moray, lies Little Larder and C houquette . Does Moray Cafe live up to my expectations as the rest of the places I have visited in New Farm? First visit we had was dinner on a Tuesday night. Why Tuesday? because every thing on the menu was at $13 (although the online menu states $12) ~ 'Tight-Ass Tuesdays'. Tuesday's Dinner Menu The menu does offer quite a few varieties from lamb, salmon, steak, pasta and gnocchi. We or

Banana Muffins In my  Ortiga post , I indicated that I had some food to eat before dinner. Few hours to kill before dinner, I decided to bake some cake/muffins ... more like 'mini muffins'. I have been using this 'banana muffins' recipe for years now and it never fails me.  Recipe (can't remember the source) 1/2 cup unsalted butter 2 eggs 3 small bananas 1 tsp vanilla 1 tsp baking soda 50 ml buttermilk or milk 1/2 cup caster sugar 1 1/2 cup self raising flour Methods: Cream butter, sugar and vanilla for 2-3 minutes at medium speed. Add eggs separately, beating well, 1 min each time. Mash bananas and add into the mixture. Stir well. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk first. Then, add buttermilk and flour alternately into the mixture and mix well. Bake in 2 greased tins or 1 large tin at 180 C for 35 minutes until cooked. Alternatively, pour into 6-hole muffin tray or 12-hole muffin tray which will take about 15 min

Pearl Café, Woolloongabba Finally, after weeks of busy-ness (if such a word exist), G and I had the chance to go out for breakfast. Both of us had been very busy (especially me) to actually have a get together … yup, even though she’s my housemate.    Pearl Café has been up on my 'list to visit' since ages ago. Finally, both of us have some time to visit this place. G, more of a foodie than I am, has visited Pearl Café for at least three times and this will be the fourth for her. Wow! On the way there… G     : So sweet or savoury? Me   : Hmmm…. Savoury cause I don’t usually have sweet tooth in the morning. You? G     : It depends… In Chinese tradition, people don’t usually have meat in their breakfast. You know, it’s okay if it’s in the bun or dumplings… Me   : Hmmm…. We’ll see what they offer then! We got there by 9.30 am and it was already pretty full and it’s only Thursday! Exteriorly, Pearl Café looks like one of the old, heritage buildings located am

Too busy to cook and buy food, I have been consuming instant noodles, random Japanese and Korean snacks and not to forget my crunchy peanut butter and orange marmalade sandwich since the past two weeks. Since young, I don’t like jam (any flavours available) because they are either too sour or sweet. I’m weird! However, last Saturday I had sudden cravings for orange marmalade with peanut butter and I finished a bottle of orange marmalade in five days… What else has been happening the past two weeks? The celebration of the ‘Nine Emperor Gods Festival’ kicked start on the 27 th September 2011 until 5 th October 2011; lasting for nine days.
