Shabuhouse

Shabuhouse, Brisbane CBD

Wandering around the city figuring what to have for dinner, SaC found Shabuhouse and Hanwoori, both located at Level 1 of 70 Mary St. Still to early for dinner, we walked around and came back with a decision: Shabuhouse for hotpot or Hanwoori for BBQ? Both at the same price at $29.90 for 'All You Can Eat'.

Hmm... Not wanting to have the BBQ aroma lingering on my clothes, I opted for Shabuhouse. It was so full on a Sunday night and mostly occupied by Japanese or Korean. I guess that's a start of a good sign.

After being directed to our seats, everything became self-service. I would like it if there was someone to explain how it work but unfortunately, they were quite busy. Looking around at our neighbours, we managed to figure it out.

  1. Collect your choice of soup base: seaweed, fish or tomyum. Fill it up (1/2 full) and bring it back to your own heating element on your table. There's button on the side table to choose the level of heat.
  2. Choose any ingredients you like and start cooking!

Well, the good thing about Shabuhouse is that there's two heating elements on a table so each person can have their preferred soup base instead of sharing just one. There's lots of ingredients to choose from: vegetables, all types of 'balls' (fish, crab, octopus, etc), sliced meat (beef, pork) and seafood (prawns, squids, calamari and CRAB) as well as noodles (thick, thin).

Let everything simmer and cook! While waiting, you can try some of their sushi or their selection of pre-cooked fried food such as chicken karaage, takoyaki, spring rolls, tofu and more.

Sliced Beef for SaC, prawns and sliced pork for me!

For $29.90, I think it's a reasonable price considering all the food selections Shabuhouse provide. We tried the clear seaweed and fish broth which had light, mild flavour, accompanied by the fresh meats and seafood (trying to eat the crab was a bit of a challenge, without proper tools provided). The ambience was good too although can be quite noisy. Otherwise, a good place to eat and talk and eat! Both of us had a good time and stayed until it's about to shut! :D

WARNING: By the way, if there's leftover food, be prepared to pay $20 for charity.
