Ann Gyoza Bar

Ann Gyoza Bar, Fortitude Valley

Quite a while ago, a group of us visited Ann Gyoza Bar at the Emporium for dinner after our long exhaustive OSCE study session. Yup, this was way way back when we were quite stressed with studies! But it is all good now! ;)

How should I describe Ann Gyoza Bar? The ambience was nice and the service good. However, we were still quite hungry even after ordering LOTS of food! I guess the concept in Ann Gyoza is similar to a 'bar', where food are supposed to be shared.

For entree/starter, we had edamame ($6) and it was all right. The Nanban-Zuke ($9) was quite appetising.

We tried to order some dish in each section. Next up, we tried their salmon sashimi ($12), which was quite fresh. All of us tried some except for Lainey who does not eat raw fish. Well, I was like her too in the past until a friend changed my perspective.

For the tapas section, we ordered the deep fried prawns and different versions of kara-age. I was quite apprehensive at first looking at the deep fried prawns. How am I going to peel off its head? Ahaha... I munched the whole crispy prawn happily! They were pretty good.

We ordered the normal chicken kara-age as well as the teriyaki chicken kara-age ($12). It is just additional teriyaki sauce over the chicken. I thought they were quite tender and fresh but Lainey sensed that they are frozen chicken pieces...

The okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake) was quite flavourful.

Salmon teriyaki was all right, the salmon fresh and grilled to perfection.

What's a visit to Ann Gyoza without ordering their dumplings? The Japanese dumplings were served with a special Ann sauce on a hot plate. Six pieces for the price of $10. We tried four different types of the dumplings: pork, spicy, cheese and seafood.

Hmm... the dumplings were pretty good although I have to warn that the 'spicy' dumplings are indeed spicy! That heat and spiciness certainly numbed my tongue and I could not appreciate other version of the dumplings. Poor Mr and myself!

We had quite a good time albeit the unwarned spiciness! It was good that Lainey had the entertainment discount. I do think that it is on the expensive side considering the size of the meals.
