Golden Lane

Golden Lane, Sunnybank
Looks like there is a new yum cha restaurant in Brisbane! Golden Lane just opened last Sunday and currently offer 10% discount for the first week. Together with the in-laws, we visited this busy restaurant yesterday. We had to wait for about 15-20 minutes before our table is ready. The tableware is all new, with dipping sauces (chilli oil, vinegar, soy sauce) on the side. However, I did note that the tablecloth is a little dirty...

Anyhow, straight to their menu! They offer some yum cha selection, together with congee, noodles, rice noodles and stir-fry dishes; or if you are keen, you can select dishes from their BIG colourful printed menu. As for us, we ordered from their paper menu and handed it over to the waitstaff. Do not be surprised if the waitstaff start using their mobile phone while working... From my observation, they were taking our order through a mobile app.  :)

Some of our meals came by quickly and after some reminder, our steamed yum cha meals start to arrive. First up was the spring onion pancake. It is quite different from other pancake that I have tried, and Golden Lane's pancake is fluffy and flaky at the same time.

Next up is the Pig's trotter with ginger and vinegar. It was ordered so that I can get a taste of it. I have not try any in the past and it is sour-ish but also sweet at the same time. I had the egg while the in-laws had the trotters. They commented that it was pretty authentic and good.

I was keen to try their 'xiao long bao' and the pan fried pork buns. They are quite different from what I expect. The xiao long bao was quite big in size and meaty, but did not have the 'juice' I expect. The pan fried pork buns were soft and fluffy in the inside.

Their prawn dumplings came with three assorted prawn dumplings which were unique and each of us get to try a different one. Its fried prawn beancurd pastry was generous in size and we all commented it was good. I did not expect the steamed glutinous rice with chicken to come in balls shape... It was mediocre and my least favourite.

Last but not least, we devoured a bowl of Golden Lane's special wanton noodle. It was served in a rather large bowl with six plump wantons (filled with pork mince, prawn and fish roe). It was rather delicious! We could not finish the remaining honey duck buns and had them packed home.

I think Golden Lane served fairly good dim sum meals and will likely be a competitor in the current yum cha market, which means better food and deal for us consumers! There might still be some issues in the first week of opening but they are certainly trying hard. :)
